Cavaliero Finn Gallery

Cavaliero Finn is an London based art gallery with a carefully curated portfolio of expertly crafted, contemporary objects and award-winning fine art. The gallery curates regular exhibitions at art fairs in London, works with leading museums and institutions and provides consultative services to corporate and private clients.

While searching for some information on a particular artist, I stumbled across their website. I made an appointment to view some of their work and we got chatting about the challenges of being a small gallery without a permanant physical location. They wanted to revamp their very old website and were unsure about what to do next. They wanted a cleaner, contemporary design to showcase their artists and they were interested in a content management system. was keen to familiarise myself in the latest web design developments so it seemed mutually beneficial to develop our relationship and I began to do some freelance work for them.

Their previous website setup meant that anyone making edits had to have a knowledge of html. They had to retain someone to make updates any time they had news, new artists or needed to add new products to their store. For a small business, this had inevitably led to infrequent updates. They were interested in a content management system and online store so that they could begin creating their own posts and have the ability to make timely edits without needing a web professional. They had done some research as to the type of theme they would like to use so we had a great starting point. I was happy to take the research from here and help them through the process of developing their new website. Here’s an overview of what the project entailed

  • Review of existing site site content and functionality
  • Review of available software options resulting in the selection of WordPress and WooCommerce
  • Organisation of existing data and indepth interview with client as to what additional functionality would be required
  • Creation of website pages, menus and submenus and integration of WooCommerce plugin
  • Initial migration of data subset to verify that selected theme and options were giving the desired outcome and were fully responsive
  • Complete migration of data and acceptance testing by client
  • Style and script customisations of WordPress theme
  • Investigation and installation of plugins to integration of mailing list sign up with their exiting MailChimp account and SEO optimisation

Reflections
Having previously come from a web development background, I was so impressed by how much had changed in this space in the years I had been away. The sophistication of products like WordPress and WooCommerce had enabled small business’ to create and customise their own website and online stores without having to write a line of code. I feel very privileged that i was allowed undertake this journey with the clients which afforded me to opportunity to dive back into the world of web design and development.
